While you might not immediately think of propane as a “green” fuel, it absolutely is.
If you look at the U.S. Department of Energy’s 1992 National Energy Policy, propane is listed as an alternative fuel right alongside options like biodiesel and hydrogen power. Even families that heat their homes and power their appliances with propane don’t always know how clean burning and energy efficient it is.
As communities across the world grapple with how to address climate change and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, propane is an integral part of any balanced, effective strategy.

To begin, propane is 90% efficient, meaning that when your furnace or boiler burns propane, very little heat energy escapes through your chimney into the atmosphere. This level of efficiency far outpaces many other fuels.
The emissions that do escape when propane burns are also much cleaner. Propane contains virtually no particulate matter (a known carcinogen). It releases significantly less carbon dioxide, 50 percent less nitrogen oxide, and 82 percent less sulfur oxide.
